Self-contained gite (100 sq metres) with fully equipped large kitchen/diner, spacious lounge, one twin bedded and one double bedded room, shower room with wc Car parking, garden furniture etc. River Charente 2 mins walk. Resident British owners. Note that we now take in guests on any day of the week to fit in with air/ferry timetables. Regretably no children under the age of 8 and no pets. | |

Gite is entered via the owners electronic gated property and forms part of the owners home. It has its own independant entrance leading directly into the large, comfortable lounge with sofas, chairs, coffee table, sideboard, TV/Video (TV- French channels), tape/cd player/radio. Floors throughout the property are tiled with rugs/carpets provided for added comfort. The kitchen diner is spacious with full range of units, double sink, electric oven/hob, extractor, frig/freezer, microwave, many eletrical gadgets etc. and washing machine. Cooking utensils, cutlery, china and glasses provided for at least 6 people. Large dining table and 6 chairs and plenty of worktop space. The main bedroom has a standard double bed, side tables with lamps, cuboard for clothes, chest of drawers and an alcove with separate washhand basin. The twin bedded room has a wardrobe with shelves, side table and lamp and an exercise bike. The shower room has a shower cubicle, wc, washhand basin in a vanitary unit, heated towel rail, hairdryer etc. All rooms, except the kitchen, have electric radiators plus additional independant heating when rqd. There is also an electric blanket for the double bed in winter. Cooling fan for the hotter weather. The accommodation is comfortable and spacious. Use of the owners garden and parking. Garden table/chairs, sunshade, BBQ (June/July/August). All linens, except beach towels, are provided and changed weekly. |

We are situated on the edge of open countryside, just 8 minutes drive from the centre of Saintes in the Charente-Maritime, SW France. Saintes is a town of art and history on the banks of the Charente. Enjoy its parks, Cathedral, Roman Amphitheatre (1st Century), beautiful Abbaye aux Dames (1047). Many shops, restaurants, swimming pool, tennis, etc.in the city and enjoyable surrounding countryside. Les Gonds is a small village within 10 mins walking distance from our Gite where there is a post office, bakery, butcher, newspaper/tobacconist also selling some fresh produce etc. The River Charente is a 2 min walk from the gite. In the season it is possible to hire boats from Saintes and it is wonderful to take one of the day or evening trips to Cognac and other beauty spots of the area. The summers are long and pleasantly warm and the winters are short and mild being the warmest part of France, after the Cote d'Azur. We are also centrally placed for trips to Poitiers (Futuroscope), Angouleme, Limoges etc. Why not take a trip to visit the world famous distilleries of Cognac (30 mins drive) Hennessy, Martell & Remy-Martin. Jarnac (14 km east of Cognac) Hine & Courvoisier. Then there is the historic town of La Rochelle (capital of sailing) This maritime town has a rich heritage and many of you will recognise the famous two towers that guard the Old Port area. Nearby, Rochefort is the home of fortifications, monuments etc. which illustrate the history of a military port established by Colbert. Ile de Oleron with its brightly coloured boats and famous for its oysters is a nice outing with its fine sandy beaches fringed with pines. Ile de Re, just off La Rochelle is a cyclists heaven, ninety kilometres of cycle paths, amidst pine trees, vineyards and natural reserves. Then, of course, there is Bordeaux. Beautiful,elegant shops and the nearby vineyards of Medoc, Graves etc. St Emilion is an absolute must for atmosphere and excellent wine purchases. If you are beach lovers then Royan (30 mins drive) is a sandy sea resort on the Atlantic. It has marvellous wide sandy beaches and if you prefer sailing then there are boats to be hired from the marina area. Royan also has a nice selection of shops and restaurants with oysters and seafood in abundance at reasonable prices. Nearby at La Palmyre there is the famous international zoo and Gardens of the World. St George de Didonne also has an adventure area for kids (and adults if you are brave!) |

| How to get here |
By air from the UK to Bordeaux (British Airways and Air France and BMI) and also Ryanair from Stansted to La Rochelle (our nearest airport - about 1 hr drive) or to Limoges from Liverpool (about a 2 hr drive). Ryanair are opening up new routes from the UK so please check the latest information. All airports have local car rental facilities and Ryanair have very good car hire deals so please ask them when booking a flight. By car from the UK there is Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth, Poole etc. to any of the northern Brittany ports e.g. St Malo (250 miles); Caen (312 miles) and Cherbourg (340 miles) to Saintes. By road you approach Saintes via the A10 motorway and exit on Junction 35. The property is then less than 10 mins drive. Exact location details/map will be provided. |

Rental rates for gite per week for 2007/8 Low Season: 1 January - 30 April 2008 Euro 400 Mid Season: 1 May to 30 June Euro 500 High Season: 1 July - 15 September Euro 600 Low Season: 16 September - 31st December 2008 Euro 400 There is a 10% increase in the above rates for Easter/Christmas/New Year dates. PLEASE NOTE: IF ONLY ONE BEDROOM IS OCCUPIED ( 1 OR 2 PEOPLE) THEN THERE IS A DISCOUNT OF 10% Low Season: Bookings in the low season - please enquire about special terms for lets of three weeks or longer. Please enquire about exact rates when making your initial enquiry. So,if you are househunting or just want to get away from the hectic life of your own city, then take advantage of this offer. A nominal charge will be made for electricity during the winter season. Changeover day: Flexible. Arrival after 3pm. Vacate by 10 am on departure date. Terms: Once booking confirmed we require a non-refundable deposit of 10% and the balance 8 weeks prior to arrival. If booking within 8 weeks of arrival, the full amount will be due at time of reservation. A sterling or euro cheque are both acceptable. We do ask for a damage security deposit of Euros 100, payable on arrival which will be returned to the client at the end of their stay prior to departure if no damage has taken place. Please note we will normally only hold the initial enquiry dates for 48 hrs unless it is confirmed so please let us know if you are actively looking for your travel arrangements in order for us to refrain from offering it to others. After 48 hrs we will release the property to other clients without further reference to you. Thank you. |
