The raised ground floor apartment has many windows and is full of light and charm conveying a feeling of ease and comfort. It is furnished with antique farm furniture. The china is "Ainsley" and the crystal glasses are from Harrods while the cutlery is a typical quality product purchased from the village factory. There are TWO twin/KING BEDROOMS with TWO ENSUITE SHOWER ROOMS ( electric heaters for summer cool days. There is a studio with a 4ft 6 inch sofa-bed (5inch mattress) by the main building with its own electricity, telephone and washing facilities. The LIVING ROOM also contains a large sofa-bed with a comfortable 5 inch mattress, which can sleep two. There is a TV with ENGLISH channels, DVD, CD, Radio PLAYER. The house is perfect for 4 GUESTS but can sleep up to EIGHT if needed. The KITCHEN has a glass wall opening onto the paved outdoor seating/dinning area with teak furniture This gives the kitchen a very light conservatory feel. The garden extends to half an acre, enclosed on three side of the property. There is A GARAGE for your car on the property. |

The village 15 minutes UPHILL DRIVE from THIERS,is ideal for those who desire to escape from the hustle of daily life into a peaceful setting. You can practice your French on the locals as practically nobody speaks any English except the lady at the newsagents. It has the added advantage of being located within easy driving distance of Thiers (5 miles), Ambert, Le Mont-Dore, Le Puy and Limoges. The village has A FANTASTIC PASTRY BAKER, butcher, grocer, a charcuterie, a newsagent, a hardware store, one hotel-restaurant, bars, hairdresser, two DOCTORS & a chemist,a post office, a bank and a church within a five minute walk from the house. Should you be a night-owl, there is a nice discotheque which opens in the summer after midnight. Nearby there are BEAUTIFUL INN.THE MINI GOLF CAFE at STREMY'S LAKE has NO menu , but everyting is freshly cooked by the owner-chef.You watch the sun setting during your evening meals.... You can go collect FRESH milk, eggs, cheese,home made butter at the nearby FARM. It is also easy to join various organised walks or horse treks through the surrounding woodland. Around the village, one can visit a bison and snail farms, cheese-makers, wine-pressers, knife factories, curtain-makers, lace-making and other cottage industries typical of this region of France. In the summer, there are various festivals and fairs and concerts in the surrounding area which are more to perpetuate tradition than for commercial reasons. Local commerce is also stimulated by various "brocantes" where a varied choice of antiques and craft can be purchased at a significant bargain. There are three 18 hole golf courses nearby and tennis and horse riding is available. Quick access to the A72, makes the village within easy reach of the principal towns, Chateaux and places of interest in the area. VULCANIA (25 miles away) a new volcano park promoted by our ex President of France Giscard D'Estaing is near Clermont Ferrand. Details on internet The village is a beautiful 15 mins drive downhill to the medieval town of THIERS, capital of knife-making in France. You will be near many of the Most Beautiful Villages of France such as CHARROUX, LAVAUDIEU, USSON, ST SATURNIN, St FLORET, SEMUR en BRIONNAIS. In nearby Vichy a sophisticated life style is available with its spa, opera, ballet, designer shops, horse racing and water sport. St Etienne, Clermont Ferrand and Lyon are also within easy drive. The Puy de Dome, the highest mountain in the area is a must to visit. There are also many festivals to join in during July and August. If you prefer to visit chateaux, then the Hauteribes, Chateau de Malmont and Chateau de Codignat are close by as well as the hot springs of Chaudes-Aigues. Of course if you only wish to relax you can just lay back on the chaises-longues on the lawn! |

The village is 400 miles from LE HAVRE directly on the motorway (except for the last 3 miles) with a journey time of 5 HOURS. Ferries from PORTSMOUTH ( 90 minutes drive from central London). The overnight crossing make a very easy journey. From Calais it is about 500 miles/7 hours drive. There is a new seacat from Dover to Boulogne with very cheap crossing on the internet : SPEEDFERRIES THIS spring 50 POUNDS RETURN!!!!!! PORSTMOUTH TO LE HAVRE WITH A CABIN FOR 4 ON NIGHT CROSSING IS around 255 POUNDS. RYAN AIR FLY TO GRENOBLE AIRPORT 2 hours drive to the house at the moment £47 RETURN!!!!. BRITISH MIDLAND ( Dec to April) & EASY JET FLIES TO LYON about 1h30 minute drive from the house. Car rental is available at all the airports. I usually book with last minute Geneva is a 3 hour's drive. |
