Situated on the side of the Vezere river the property offers excellent walking opportunities and is fully equipped with all the mod-cons. Sky (Free To Air) sattelite TV with DVD, video, and a CD/Stereo system. Although modern, the house is very traditional and includes a pigionere, albeit empty.
The main living area is open plan with large exposed beams supporting the upstairs floor and minstrels gallery which overlooks the main sitting area. There are two sitting areas, one at the quiet end the other with the UK Television seperated by the central dining area.
The tiled floors downstairs help to keep the summer temperatures at a comfortable level during the usually very warm summers. There are four doors leading to the patio, pool and BBQ. Supplied is a selection of popular books for all tastes, and a number of indoor games and local information to assist you in planning your activities. For those of a less energetic nature, then the patio, pool and surrounding views allow you to relax and regenerate your batteries in style.
The three bedrooms upstairs are accessed via a wooden staircase and comprises two doubles and a twin bedroom, all with adequate storage, bedside lights and fans for those hot nights.
Shower and bathroom facilities abound, with three toilets two showers and a separate large bathroom. All linen and indoor towels are supplied and changed every seven days, or before if required, however we do ask you to bring your own towels for use around the pool area, these of course can be washed in the automatic washing machine provided, thereby reducing wear, tear and sun-tan oil on the indoor items.
Throughout the house you will find high quality furniture and fittings with a log fire or underfloor central heating available if required, on request during winter months, with some charges for electricity. If cold weather is experienced in Summer or your utilisation of heated water is above normal then an extra charge will be requested, this has never occured with normal use and a full house.
There is secure covered (cool) private car-parking outside the front door, within the property area.
We can provide a groceries parcel for your arrival on request at cost price and will be discussed prior to your departure from UK. we suggest Pizza, Bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee, eggs, with of course Wine, beers and soft drinks, any other special requirements will be supplied, but we will ask you to contact us in advance. Remember that special items such as Marmite Cheddar Cheese, although available are very expensive. Wines and spirits are cheaper here than on the ferries - so hang on!

Location
|
|
Notwithstanding the excellent home comforts and the pool, the area has many places of interest to visit and activities to enjoy, including numerous historic caves and Chateaux, all with their individual differences and well worth a visit. In addition there are a a selection of the very best Bastide towns in France all within sensible driving distance and again offering another insight into the previous history of this special region. As in all of France, excellent markets abound with availability almost every day of the week, our favourites are Le Bugue on Tuesdays and St Cyprien on Sundays.
As mentioned the area offers excellent walking, cycling and tourist opportunities and with ones own transport, the list of places to visit is endless. The West coast beaches are within a couple of hours drive, as is Toulouse and Bordeaux for those excellent shopping opportunities, including Ikea and other designer shops within the large shopping complexes.
When the need arises for the inevitable food shopping there are excellent supermarkets in le Bugue and almost all UK type items can be easily found. Lidl, AldiMart and Intermarche are the main shops and all are open all day, with mid-day closing on Sunday's.
If you are potential house hunters, do drop us a line in advance and we will give you pointers to get you started, based on our own experiences. If not then in addition to all the other activities locally, one can always study the Estate Agents Ad's, as we did - and "Dream".
The Dordogne is well known in England and does have a relatively large English contingent here in summer, however it is easy to get away and enjoy rural France and all that is on offer locally, without the hassle and expense encountered in England and still be only one days drive from the channel ports. This therefore leaves you the maximum time to enjoy all the local food, wine and of course the weather whilst regenerating your batteries in a very relaxed environment.
We have information on the following:-
Cycling - (Two Cycles available in the house) Quad Biking. Walking - Routes/maps available. Hot Air Balloons. Cameoing - Lots of availability. Horse Riding. Wine Tasting. Gardens and museums. Aquaria. Boat Trips - Perigueux, Bergerac and Baynac. Bird Spotting. Tennis Both indoor and outside facilities available within 1Km. Golf - 9 & 18 hole Courses within 15 minutes driving time of the property. Activity and confidence courses available at Sarlat - call for details. Paint Balling is available locally. In addition there are a number of interesting cave sites to explore within the area.

How to get here
|
|
Driving via the channel ports is the norm, but can be expensive, use Dover to Calais ferries and occasionally Norfolk Line to Dunkirk, however it does add time to the drive but the savings more than compensate for an overnight stop somewhere interesting perhaps, which this reduces the final push, especially with younger children. We advise that you book your ferry early to achieve the departure time of your choice. We are only one days drive from Le Harvre or Calne which, with an early morning departure puts you in Le Bugue seven to eight hours later. Fuel has slowly gone down in price and is still cheaper than UK, with diesel here being cheaper than petrol.
As an alternative the FLYBE and RYANAIR services fly to Bergerac, Poitiers, Limoges or Bordeaux and then car hire becomes another option. Bordeaux is served by BA and Easyjet and only is 2.0hrs away with an easy route via Perigueux.
