This is a cottage for two in historic Descartes, birthplace of the philosopher. 'Les Bananiers', named after the banana grove in the garden, is situated on the edge of the town, 5 minutes in each direction, into the town and leisure centres on the banks of the River Creuse. The cottage comprises of 2 rooms – a double bedroom with a beautiful 19th century mosaic tiled floor and an open-plan kitchen / dining / living area into which both the front and garden doors open on to. There is a shower room and WC along with electric heaters and hot water. Again most of the historic features have been preserved. The 100 foot L-shaped garden features flower beds, gravel paths, a vine covered pergola walkway, a rough lawn, small copse, barbeque and a graveled parking space at the bottom for up to 4 cars. |

Activities Nearby Sightseeing, Walking, Wine tasting, Leisure Centre. During the summer months there are various “vide-grenier” events. This is a type of traditional French car-boot sale which occupies a whole village for the day, virtually every weekend during the summer and is a marvelous source of interesting bargains to suit all tastes. Villages take it turn to stage these and posters advertise them everywhere. Location The town centre, with shops, cafes and restaurants, is a 5 minute walk into town. 5 minutes in the opposite direction, going out of town, is the open air Leisure Centre, which features tennis, mini-golf, a swimming pool, camping, boules, manicured parks and canoeing. There is also the opportunity to walk along the River Creuse, which runs through the town. |

Getting to Les Bananiers Closest airport is Tours which is located about 40 minutes from Descartes. Ryanair services are available daily from London Stansted. Ferry crossings include Portsmouth to Caen (shortest driving) and Dover to Calais (shortest crossing). Descartes in 50 kilometers from Tours and is within easy reach of all the Loire Chateaux. To reach les Bananiers from the A10 Paris – Bordeaux motorway, get off at the Ste-Maure de Touraine exit south of Tours. Follow the signposts first to Chatellereault, then to Descartes. These are clearly visible along the main N10 road, which runs parallel to the A10 motorway. At Descartes, follow the sign to Centre Ville. You will pass the flag bestrewn roundabout where both supermarkets are situated – one visible, the other hidden by the signposted road to Chatellereault on the right. The town centre is a little left-right dogleg which leads straight onto rue Descartes. No. 67 - Bananiers 1 is on the right directly opposite the only bit of greenery visible on the left. When you reach this, turn right into the narrow rue de la Liberte, drive past the cottage – Bananiers 2 and enter the garden by the gate at the bottom into the parking space. |
