Collioure is known as "The Jewel of Cote Vermeille". It is a magical little seaside town with a 13th century castle, mediaeval church, windmill and fort. 20 Rue du Soleil is an original beamed fisherman's cottage in the heart of medieval Collioure, South of France. The cottage is just one hundred metres from the heart of the old town and beach. It is spacious and recently renovated and can sleep up to 8 in two double rooms and two twins. The kitchen is completely modernised and the dining set comfortably seats eight. For entertainment, there is a CD/DVD player. From an upstairs balcony, you can wake up to stunning views over vineyards, the fort and windmill. For al fresco dining on those long balmy summer evenings, the cottage has a private rear patio, with a built-in BBQ, outdoor sink and dining furniture. The cottage also has a secure garage. Rue du Soliel is a narrow cobbled street, featured in a painting by Matisse. |

The ground floor of the cottage has beamed ceilings and consists of a galley style kitchen comprising of cooker hob, fan assisted oven, dishwasher, washing machine and a large preparation / serving area. The kitchen has an excellent selection of cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses. A large fridge / freezer provides ample cold storage, even in summer. Leading off from the large open-plan sitting room /dining room is a double bedroom with two single beds, and a shower / wet-room which includes a lavatory and washbasin. The sitting area includes a TV, CD player and radio, and a selection of books which are constantly changing. The dining table seats 8 comfortably, and the open plan arrangement provides easy access to the rear patio garden. The patio garden has high walls, is secluded and peaceful, and has a built-in bar-b-q, washing facilities, and seating for 8. The second floor comprises of three further double bedrooms arranged as two double-bedded rooms and one room with two single beds, and a shower room / bathroom. All bedrooms have excellent storage facilities for clothes and personal effects. The cottage is beautifully located in the Faubourg area of Collioure, a little over a hundred metres from the beach, shops and restaurants. The cottage has its own garage approximately 50 metres away that is large enough for at least two cars. Additional parking is available at several locations in the town, including free spots. Entry to the cottage from the street is via a keypad, which allows for easy access to all visitors; the access code being changed at each turnover to ensure maximum security. The cottage has been furnished to a high standard and fitted with quality amenities that make it a real home rather than a simple holiday retreat. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Collioure was a famous place for artists such as Matisse, Picasso and Derain at the start of the 20th Century. It has a Modern Art Museum and numerous art shops due to its popularity. There are 4 beaches in Collioure, the nearest beach is only 100 metres from the house. Beach beds are available to hire, and you can also rent pedallos, Hobe-cats and sailing dinghies. The house is in easy reach of the whole range of restaurants, bars and shopping facilities, yet the street is quiet and secluded. Boat trips and fishing There are daily fishing trips to nearby Cap Bear and passenger shuttles run to Port-Argelès. Le Petit Train Departs from the car park by La Poste all day. See vineyards, Fort Saint Elme, Port-Vendres and then return along the coast. Commentary is in French, English, German, Spanish, Catalan and Dutch. Bus Tours From June to September excursions are available into Spain and Andorra. Market days Wednesday and Sunday mornings in Collioure, Saturday morning in nearby Port-Vendres. Guided walks Available in April, May, June, September and October. Walks leave from Tourist Offices and guides can take you around the Côte Vermeille hinterland where you can indulge in wine tasting and "Croquants" (local biscuits). Dive trips can be organised from the dive shop just 50 metres from the house and mountain bike and motor bike hire from a shop 4 doors further down. In the winter the house is located within two hours of the ski resorts of the Pyrennes and Andorra. Architecture Le Château Royal XIII - XVIIIè The Château Royal was built on Roman foundations and is the centre of Collioure's medieval fortification. Le Fort Saint Elme XVI The fort was built in 1552 by the Spanish King Charles V and is on a hill overlooking Collioure and Port-Vendres. La Tour de Madeloc XIII Get a breathtaking view from this tower 652 m above sea level. It was once used as a watch tower for the Spanish coast. Today it is a television tower! Eglise Notre Dame des Anges XVII The church's original foundations were built in the sea. Since then it has seen more extensions than DIY television show. The belfry was built in the Middle Ages, the nave in 1684 and it was given extensive renovations in 1672 and 1818. Cloître du Couvent des Dominicains XIV The cloister once fell victim to illegal art trade, but was bought back by the municipality in 1992 after it had been discovered in Anglet. Now eleven of its arches are in the garden of Parc Pams. |

By Plane Perpignan is the nearest airport to Collioure (30 minutes drive) with flights with Ryanair from London Stansted all year round and with Flybe from Birmingham and Southampton (seasonal) Girona is 1hour 15minutes from Collioure. Ryanair fly there daily from London Stansted, London Luton, Bournemouth, Blackpool, Dublin, East Midlands, Glasgow, Liverpool, Shannon Carcassone and Montpellier are 1.5 hours from Collioure. Ryanair fly to both airports from London Stansted, and to Carcassone from East Midlands, Liverpool and Shannon. Toulouse and Barcelona are two hours from Collioure By train From London Waterloo via Eurostar to Paris and TGV to Perpignan daily. Then local train to Collioure. Average time 12 hours. By Car Motorways all the way to Perpignan then dual carriage way to Collioure. Allow 11 – 12 hours from French ports. |
