| Summary | Le Pre Rond is a lovely detached stone house with a large above ground swimming pool in its own large private garden on the outskirts of a small village and set amongst fields in the rolling heart of the Bocage. The setting is quite exceptional as the house is entirely private and approached by its own short track. It is a very special place, surrounded by fields and trees yet only 5km from Moncoutant, a small market town with a large supermarket and 15 km from the larger town of Bressuire. Le Pre Rond has two good sized bedrooms upstairs, both with double beds, one with an additional single bed. Ideal for a family with children or two couples. Downstairs is a large, open plan living and dining room with terracotta floor tiles throughout. The sofa bed can sleep two guest and we have a cot for babies. There is central heating and a wood burning stove for colder days. The dining table seats six and the kitchen is equiped for six guests. There is a high chair and travel cot for babies. Bedrooms have velux and dormer style windows so are bright and airy. The kitchen is very French with little yellow curtains and beams. It is well equipped, bright and recently decorated. There is a 20" TV and a DVD player for watching films and a small library of novels. Outside is a large garden with fruit trees, a veranda in front of the barn with seating for six, sun loungers and a swimming pool. You can sit in the shade or lounge in the sun while the children play in the pool. Sit under the verandah and contemplate the stars on a balmy evening, there's nothing like it. The bathroom features a small roll top iron bath with shower. There is also a washing machine, fridge freezer, iron & ironing board. There is a car port at the rear of the house for two cars. Nearby you will find beautiful countryside, fields of sunflowers, winding rivers, markets and medieval towns such as Parthenay and Vouvant. Further afield but easily reached are the cities of the Loire Valley such as Nantes, Tours, Angers, Chinon and Saumur. Other cities in the region are Cognac, La Rochelle and Poitiers. Around Niort, just 25 minutes by car, is the lovely Venise Vert or Marais Poitevin. My particular favourites though are the Anjou and Loire Valley vineyards. The Poitou-Charentes region, has its own micro climate and hours of sunshine even in February. Summer days are long and hot, even a sunny day in May can seem hotter than summer in the UK. There are two tennis courts in the village and a lovely signposted walk through the woods nearby. The nearest tourist information office is in Moncoutant with a much larger one in Bressuire. You can find out about market days, Le Puy de Fou, horse riding and more. Bressuire has a wider range or restaurants, a castle and good shopping. Bigger still is the lovely medieval town of Parthanay. There are some lovely villages along the river up to Thoars. You can swim in the lake or walk in the forest at Mervant. Vouvant is worth a vist – take a walk around and below the ramparts. There is also a zoo there. There are many other family days out nearby: Le Puy de Fou, Futuroscope, Pescalis, farmers' markets,le Foret d'Aventure, gokarting. |

The nearest ferry port is St Malo 2 - 3 hours drive. Speed Ferries' Dover to Boulogne service is the cheapest crossing. The drive is around 6 hours. Take the motorway or autoroute to Cholet then head for Moncoutant. I will supply directions from Moncoutant. You can fly to Nantes (1.5 hours) with British Airways or La Rochelle (1 hour), Poitiers (45 mins), Tours (2hours) and Limoges (2hours)with Ryan Air. |
