Large, comfortably furnished salon with sofa and armchairs and antique furniture and paintings; sizeable well equipped traditional French dining/kitchen with dishwasher, gas hob, electric and microwave ovens and fridge/freezer. From the kitchen a French window opens directly into 'Peggy's Garden', a secluded shady space to read or simply to rest, with a gothic wrought iron porch reflecting the gothic rose arches providing access to this little garden-within-a-garden. On the first floor are two spacious bedrooms (one en-suite) with attractive views over the garden and the tree-lined water-meadow which forms part of the property on the other side of the stream. Two shower-rooms with WC. Independent laundry with washing machine and drying facilities. Garden furniture, barbecue. Covered parking. Large, completely enclosed shady, romantic garden with orchard, nut trees, fruit and herbaceous borders, a growing collection of roses and a new vegetable garden inspired by the Chateau de Villandry. From March onwards, if the weather is kind, the garden is full of interest and colour, the daffodils and tulips giving way to the early rambler roses and bearded iris, with the main flush of shrub roses and the herbaceous border and geraniums following on. Ideal for a relaxing al-fresco evening in the company of the varied wild-life. You may be lucky enough to see a king-fisher, ducks and water-rats in the stream, and red squirrels and a wide variety of birds including green woodpeckers who come in search of ants on the lawns, long-tailed tits and the occasional hoopoe, as well as our resident pair of wood-pigeons and collar-doves and an almost-tame robin. Bed and breakfast and French cuisine table d'hote is available when the owners are in residence, but not normally in July or August. Please ask for information. Water, gas for cooking and electricity included. Central heating extra when required. House cleaning charge (no longer optional) payable on arrival. Regret no smoking or pets. La Roseraie is ideally situated for visiting the chateaux of the Loire Valley, being only 5 km from Chenonceaux and 12 km from Amboise where le Clos Luce,last home of Leonardo da Vinci, has a fascinating interactive exhibition of many of his inventions. The renowned Zoo Park de Beauval and the world-famous Aquarium de Touraine are within easy reach. Pony-trekking, bicycle and TV hire are available in the lively little market town of Montrichard. Excellent markets in the vicinity: among others, St. Georges-sur-Cher on Sunday morning outside the church, Montrichard on Friday and Amboise on Sunday and there are lots of excellent and reasonably priced restaurants in the area for guests who prefer to have a rest from cooking! For the energetic there are many interesting and varied walks in the neighbourhood. There is a bathing beach on the river Cher in Montrichard, where a new swimming pool is also expected to open in 2007. The renowned nature reserve of la Brenne, the 'region of a thousand lakes', a favourite with bird-watchers, walkers and nature lovers, is only an hour's drive away. |
