| Detail |
As a gite, Savary offers a spacious house with five large ensuite bedrooms(3double,2 twin/double), a well equipt kitchen, dining room leading to a covered patio area, and a cool lounge featuring ancient cow briars.Next to the patio is the swimming pool and a cavernous stone barn which has a pool/snooker table,a darts board and a bar (take your own drinks)with stools and a settee. There is also free wi-fi access. Due to the layout of this house, we are also offering Bed and Breakfast ( not at the same time ) in the same house on a first come, first serve basis. i.e. If the house is booked as a gite, there will be no B&B guests. If there are B&B guests, then it won't be booked as a gite. B&B guests will have use of the kitchen and everything else described above. We also offer Table d'Hotes to all guests which will be prepared in our own kitchen on other side of the house. As a gite families are most welcome, however as a B&B,in the interest of peace and tranquility, we are looking to accommodate a more adult market who simply need to "chill out" and relax in our quiet, secluded gardens. The rooms have recently been decorated and furnished to a high and luxurious standard with Moroccan, Indian and Manhatten themes running throughout. There is plenty of parking space within the grounds and the gardens extend to about two acres with fruit trees, roses, wisteria and many other beautiful plants and shrubs. |

| Location |
The elegant city of Bordeaux is just over an hour away by car, and the World Heritage Site of St Emilion is a half hour drive. Day trips may be made to many of the spectacular Bastide towns of the Dordogne and the Lot,such as Eymet,Sarlat,Beynac,Monpazier and Monflanquin to name but a few. There are markets on most days in one or other of the surrounding towns and then,of course, there are the vinyards. From the outrageously expensive Pomerol Petrus reds to the great value and tasty Cotes de Duras local wines there is something for all tastes and pockets. Tours and tasting sessions can be easily arranged and prove very popular during the summer months. For the more active there are fabulous canoe trips on the Dordogne river, although it is all downstream (my 78 year old mom did one). There is also horse riding and cycle hire available. The Atlantic coast at Arcachon is an hour and a half away, where you can scale the largest sand dune in Europe. You can indulge in the French cafe culture with a glass of wine, and watch the world go by at one of the many bars or restaurants in the near viscinity. There are three cafe bars and three restaurants in Duras which is a couple of minutes drive up the road. We are situated in the tiny hamlet of Balessagues, just outside Duras. The house stands alone and is usually surrounded by sunflowers or cornfields. |

Fly to Bordeaux or Bergerac airports The nearest ferry port is St Malo- six hours drive. Eurotunnel and a nine to ten hour drive. From Duras follow signs to Baleyssagues on the D134 Don't go into Baleyssagues, but follow the road for about 3km until you see a sign on your right which says Savary. If you see the Mirathon Chambre d'Hotes you have gone too far. Turn right at the sign and we are the second building on the right. Turn into the second entrance and drive to the back of the house. You will see a millstone through the first entrance. |
