La Chouette Gourmande is an ancient stone barn, situated in the Poitou Charente area of France. It has been very recently renovated by local craftsmen and offers all modern comforts in a contemporary style. It can sleep 8 people in 4 bedrooms with the option to sleep 2 extra people on a sofa bed,on the mezzanine level. It is in the peaceful hamlet of Le Peux d'Embourie, five minutes drive to the nearest little supermarket at Villefagnon, but well situated for Sauze Vaussais and Chef Boutonne where you will find shops and restaurants.
The kitchen is beautifully equipped with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
The living space is semi open plan. In the dining area is a table that can seat up to 12 people. The salon is full height and overlooked by the mezzanine. A wood burning stove has recently been installed which together with underfloor heating makes the property perfect for winter use.
Full SKY TV is provided (including sports and movie channels) together with a DVD and CD player. A telephone is available for incoming and local calls and broadband internet access is also included.
The 4 double bedrooms provide flexible accommodation - twin beds and/or doubles. There are 3 ensuite shower rooms and 1 adjacent bathroom. The bedrooms and bathrooms have wall mounted electric heaters. The bedrooms are equipped with cooling fans.
The house is set in almost an acre of land. The approach is via a beautiful courtyard with plenty of parking space. At the back of the house is the 10 x 5 metre swimming pool and full size private tennis court. The pool can be heated on request and complies fully with French safety regulations, having an electrically operated hard cover.

Location
|
|
La Chouette Gourmande is situated in the Poitou Charente region of France, approximately halfway between Poitiers and Angouleme.
The Poitou Charente area of France is very rural and still largely untouched by tourism. The people are very friendly and will go out of their way to help. Don't, however, expect a lot of English to be spoken. You will need a dictionary if your French is a little rusty! There are some good restaurants within easy driving distance and several places of interest to visit.
It is an area rich in history and culture and claims to be the second sunniest region in France. Within easy reach can be found the historic port of La Rochelle, the unique canal system of Le Marais Poitevin (Green Venice), the famous cinematic theme park of Futuroscope near Poitiers, the valleys of the Vienne and Charente rivers and, for the young (and not so young!), the ever-popular Valley of the Monkeys. For wine lovers, the region is ideally situated mid way between the Loire valley and the vineyards of Bordeaux and the spiritual delights of Cognac are only a short drive away.
For those keen on golf there are exceptionally beautiful, and reasonable, courses at Les Forges, Mazière, Cognac, Angouleme and Poitiers. There are facilities for fishing, canoeing and horse riding close by, and the gently undulating countryside makes it ideal for cycling.

How to get here
|
|
The most convenient airport to fly into is Poitiers and La Chouette is about a 50 minute drive away. There is a daily flight operated by Ryanair. Alternatively you can fly into La Rochelle or Limoges but the drive is a little longer.
By road there are several options. For those in the south east the easiest - and cheapest - is to cross from Dover.
Speedferries offer very good value and sail to Boulogne, which saves about 30 minutes driving time over the Calais crossing. For those wishing to take an overnight crossing from the south west, Brittany Ferries have the best options.Whichever route you decide on the journey is very straightforward, as it can be done practically the whole way on the motorway should you wish. If you do not have satellite navigation then a detailed route plan can be got from Michelin, whether you want to arrive in double quick time or meander down via the country roads. It is possible to complete the journey from Boulogne in approx. six and a half hours sharing the driving and with very few stops.
