Situated in a quiet location in the calm environment of Meschers-sur-Gironde and within easy walking distance of the village (5 minutes), beaches (10 minutes) and marina (20 minutes) our houses are perfectly located for an active or peaceful holiday. The properties have a real sense of privacy although situated within a few hundred yards of the centre of the village with tabac, boulangerie, bar, post office, shops, supermarket, restaurants and bank. Locally caught fish, oysters and mussels and farm produce can be bought in the local market in the church square or direct from the fishermen on the quayside. During high season the market in the church square is open daily with a range of local produce. A doctor and pharmacy are also available in the village. During the summer there is a night market and occasional brocantes/vides greniers. |

The owners Harvey & Jennifer have recently refurbished and refurnished the properties to a very high standard. The houses can accommodate from two to seven people by booking one or both properties. La Grande Maison – sleeps 2 - 7 La Grande Maison (90 sq. metres) has a private entrance door leading from the garden up a flight of six wide steps and onto a terrace. The main front entrance leads onto a hallway with on the left, double doors leading into:- Lounge, bright & airy with double windows to two sides, feature fireplace, solid wood flooring, beautiful lounge suite incorporating double bed settee, coffee tables, table lamps, music centre, television with DVD player. And to the right off the hallway:- Large kitchen with feature fire place comprising large pine table and 4 chairs, fridge freezer, 4-ring gas cooker and oven, dishwasher, microwave/oven, coffee maker, kettle and a large selection of crockery, cutlery and utensils. Along the hallway are:- Large bathroom comprising washbasin, bidet, bath with shower Separate toilet Large double bedroom tastefully decorated comprising, double bed with antique pine headboard, triple antique pine wardrobe, chest of drawers, two antique pine bedside cabinets, two Lloyd loom bedside chair, bedside lamps and feature fireplace. Large twin bedroom (from which to watch the beautiful Charente sunrise) with extra 3’6” put-u-up bed , double pine wardrobe, pine dressing table and stool, pine chest of drawers, pine bedside cabinets and bedside lamps, large armchair. Garage in which are stored - fully automatic washing machine, a garden table, four chairs, sun parasol and B.B.Q for sole use in the garden of this house. There is also a table and chairs for ‘al fresco’ dining on the terrace. La Grande Maison is suitable for couples or families with or without children. Area and Activities Meschers-sur-Gironde boasts 5 beautiful beaches, all of fine golden sand and protected from the wind by the surrounding cliffs and coastal forests. The marina, a leisurely walk from the house, hosts a range of restaurants and activities along with the local fishermen selling their days catch of mussels, oysters and other sea fish. Various boat excursions depart from the marina. 35,000 b.c the Cite troglodyte was created within the chalk caves in the cliffs in Meschers, Les Grottes de Matata are open to visitors and house an eco-museum and restaurant…and only a short walk from the property. At the heart of the Cote de Beaute, Meschers is situated 8 kms from Royan, metropolis of the pays Royannais, and 3 kms from Talmont, a picturesque village built on a promontory and classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Within an area rich in gallo-roman history, heritage and sites both interesting and picturesque there is always something new to see within a short distance. A short drive brings you to the world famous La Palmyre Zoo, the oyster beds, huitres de Marennes, producing the oysters for which the area is rightly renowned and the areas beautiful pine forests. Inland you can visit the town of Cognac and the various chateaux in the area producing some of the world’s best brandies, Camus, Remy Martin, Martell. This area is noted for its Pineau a blend of wine and cognac….relax on the terrace and enjoy a glass as an aperitif after a day sightseeing or relaxing on the beach. There are regular public buses from Meschers to Royan. Should you feel the need for activity then nearby facilities include tennis, mini golf, golf course (Royan), water sports or petanque (at the marina). The climate here is one of the best in France with its own micro-climate, with an average of 300 + days of sun a year and an average rainfall lower than that of Provence. The summers are hot and sunny, the winters dry and mild and there is something for everyone to see and do. Much more to see than can be achieved in one visit. |
